What is Good Swings Academy?

Good Swings Academy is a community-driven golf academy based in South-Central Los Angeles. Founded in 2023, we provide inclusive golf instruction tailored for kids and adults—especially individuals with disabilities and families in underserved neighborhoods.

Who can apply?

Our programs are open to participants of all skill levels, ages, and abilities. We especially welcome individuals with disabilities and residents of Greater Los Angeles County who seek a fun, supportive introduction to golf.

How do I apply?

You can apply by completing the online form on our Apply Now page. Once submitted, our staff will contact you for a phone interview to understand your goals and finalize the acceptance process.

What does the program include?

Our signature program is a 4-week immersive golf experience, which includes:

  • Four 2-hour sessions (once per week)
  • A final session playing 9 holes on the course
  • Lessons in putting, chipping, full swing, and mental skills
  • Socialization and mentorship opportunities
  • Certified, caring instructors
  • All golf equipment provided
What is the cost of the program?

The full 4-week program costs $1,000 and includes all instruction, golf course access, and equipment.

How many students are in each class?

To ensure personal attention, each program is limited to just 4 participants with a 2:1 student-to-instructor ratio.

Do I need to bring my own clubs?

Nope! We provide golf clubs and all necessary equipment to every participant.

Is the program beginner-friendly?

Absolutely. Our coursework is tailored for players of all skill levels—from total beginners to those looking to refine their skills.

What if my child has a disability?

Our academy is proudly inclusive. We specialize in teaching individuals with disabilities and work with families and regional centers to accommodate specific needs.

Are you affiliated with any organizations?

Yes. We partner with Home Guardian Angels, SCLARC (South Central Los Angeles Regional Center), the Department of Developmental Services, and the Self-Determination Program to support our community impact.

What cities will these classes be held in?

Academy sessions are held at various outdoor golf courses and indoor facilities throughout LA County.

What happens after I apply?

After your application is submitted, a staff member will contact you for a phone interview. If accepted, you’ll receive confirmation and further instructions to prepare for your sessions.

What’s the goal of Good Swings Academy?

Our mission goes beyond golf. We aim to use the sport as a tool for life lessons, mentorship, personal growth, and lasting friendships in a safe, fun, and supportive environment.

Is there toileting assistance?

Instructors will escort participants to the restroom and provide standby assistance only. Instructors and course staff cannot assist participants with toileting.

Are there snack breaks? Should I pack a snack or water?

Yes, there is a short break (10 – 15 minutes) between sessions, and light snacks are provided free of charge. Participants and guardians are also welcome to bring their own food and drinks to the program.

What are the days and hours of the classes?
Sessions are offered at various course locations between 9 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Sunday.
Are there certain types of clothing they should wear?
Comfortable, weather-appropriate layers, including a collared shirt, breathable bottoms like shorts or pants, and athletic shoes. A hat and belt are also good additions for sun protection and proper fit.
What is the teacher-to-student ratio? Is it a 1:1 setting?
The instructor-to-student ratio is 1: 2 (1 senior instructor / 1 junior instructor for every 4-participant group)
Is this a large group class?
Each session is conducted in a 4-participant group.
Are assistive devices allowed, like earphones and/or iPads?
Electronic devices are permitted and stored on premises, but cannot be a part of training. The purpose will be to utilize the device to ensure a way to de-stress, calm down, and/or relax the participant.
